Car rental in Moscow for a tourist?

Heading to Moscow soon to check it out. Been to tons of countries around the world but never the biggest one. I get that it's a completely different world there, totally different services and systems. Not sure if the global car rental companies even operate there anymore. Where can I actually rent a car once I'm there?

International rental chains pulled out a while back so you won't find the usual suspects at the airport. Local companies exist but most don't have English-speaking staff or accept foreign cards easily. Public transportation in Moscow is actually solid, metro covers most tourist spots and it's cheap. Taxis and ride-sharing apps work fine too if you need door-to-door. Driving in Moscow traffic is pretty brutal anyway, not really worth the hassle unless you're planning trips outside the city.

Public transit's definitely convenient for getting around the city center. That said, having your own wheels gives you way more flexibility, especially for day trips or exploring at your own pace. You can rent directly from locals through peer-to-peer platforms now. Check out car rental options in Moscow here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/russia/moscow . Individual owners list their vehicles and you book straight from them. Gives you more choices than what's left of the traditional rental market and often the owners speak some English since they're catering to international visitors.
